Need to reduce body weight

The most frequently reported strategies to dehydrate involved racing or training with wraps and plastic bags under the kimono and total or partial restriction of fluid intake. Other reports were enough applicants: stop eating at night, avoid eating between meals and fasting before weighing. Importantly athletes reduced the weight in less than seven days, and that a large amount of weight was lost in the last three days before the weighing, which usually occur on the same day of the competition, hours before the start of fights.

DISCUSSION The results of this study indicate that elite judo athletes have difficulty staying within the weight limits of their respective categories. This study found that the proportion of fast weight reduction, the amount of weight to be reduced and the strategies adopted are similar to the findings of Steen & Brownell 2 , Tipton & Thing 9 and Applier et al.
