This fact is indicative of the magnitude of the problem of concern to compete in weight categories that do not match the morphology of athletes.
The main adverse effects of rapid weight loss, hit by food restriction and dehydration are: (1) decreased plasma and blood volume 18 ; (2) reduction of cardiac function, which is associated with increased heart rate, decreased stroke volume and cardiac output 19 ; (3) decrease in serum testosterone concentration 20 ; (4) decreased renal blood flow and filtration volume of 21 ; (5) increased loss of electrolytes 22 ; (6) decreased system imunológico5, 6 activity; (7) worsening of mood 4.23 ; (8) increased risk of eating disorders 24 ; (9) and even temporary cessation of growth 25 .
Rapid weight loss can harm the competitive yield, although remain doubts about it. No consensus with regard to the effects on the performance of endurance , which is reduced by rapid weight loss 26 .
